When I decided to take up writing as a profession, I sought advice from an experienced friend. The only piece of advice I got from her was to learn to deal with rejections. She told me that frustration and adversities would be my permanent companions and I should first learn to tackle them before dreaming of becoming a writer. Today, I know what she meant by those words and I am thankful that I listened to her.
Life of a content writer – handling rejections and setbacks
Rejections are a part of our life. Our posts are often rejected because the client is not happy with the quality. Often it happens that I am unable to understand his requirements and deliver accordingly. Some clients are too strict and hard to please. Whatever be the case, every project that I accept comes with a probability of getting rejected. It feels bad no doubt when I find my hours of hard work going into the recycle bin. But I cannot complain as I know that I have to carry on. That’s resilience for me.
Learn to bounce back when hit the bottom
Now, I didn’t learn to be positive in one day. In the initial phase, there had been instances that I had stopped writing after a project got disqualified. Negative feedbacks would break my confidence. I would smart for days over a single negative comment from a reader. However, with time I developed myself. Now, nothing can stop me. I have learned to bounce back every time I hit the bottom.
I practice thought awareness
I have observed that setbacks or failures affect our mind too badly. We keep on thinking about the negative comments and that affects the confidence. I have conditioned my mind to not dwell on the negativity. Whenever I face any obstacle, I think about positive things. I recall the project for which I earned positive reviews, I think of my readers who wait for my weekly blog posts and above all, I thank for being in such a challenging profession.
I try to learn from my mistakes
Every project gives me ample opportunities to learn. Whenever a client gives negative feedback I make a note in my journal to not repeat the mistake. Through the years I have learned to clarify all my doubts so that I understand what the client expects from me. This way, I have developed my own way of handling projects.
I choose how I react
This I find is essential in achieving success. I maintain cordial relationships with my clients. I always try to understand their perspective and when I cannot conform to their ideas I differ but politely. I have seen that by being open to discussion and feedback has helped me to please my clients.
I set SMART goals
Yes, I always set goals as a part of my daily work. Achieving my goals make me more confident. It boosts my self-esteem and helps me in thinking positively.
Keeping negative thoughts at bay
Handling failures, digesting negativity, and tackling adverse situations teach us that life is not a bed of roses. You have to toil and earn your own place here. At the end of the day, I feel satisfied with giving a good fight and keeping negative thoughts at bay.
