When a content writer goes for a vacation…

I was feeling so tired. For over two months, I have been slogging over an online shopping portal. Working as a freelance content writer, I wrote hundreds of product descriptions, blogs, press releases, and articles. I worked day in and day out and slept only when my mind couldn’t take anymore. My daily routine went for toss and I almost felt like a zombie writing and writing more.

So, when the project got over, the first thing I wanted was a long break. I decided not to touch my laptop for a month and stay away from all sorts of writing. My daughter was also having her holidays and so we decided to go for a family vacation. Everybody seemed to agree to visit Goa and enjoy the rainy season there.

For the first couple of days, I just slept like a log. I didn’t go to the beach; I didn’t take walks but stayed indoors and relaxed.

Once I felt refreshed, I decided to make the most of the holiday and do something memorable. We explored the beach town and visited the local markets. It felt so good to try local delicacies and chat up with the local shop owners. We did a bit of fashion shopping too. We went paragliding and it was all fun.

I was enjoying myself but there was a nagging feeling at the back of my mind. I missed my laptop. I missed my usual routine of writing 6-7 hours a day. I couldn’t believe it but I missed the window by which I used to sit and write.

One day, as I was walking around the town, I spotted a small church. It was painted white and looked simple but beautiful. I walked in. There was no one inside. A single candle glowed at the altar and cast some strange shadows on the old walls of the church. I sat on the front pew. Somehow, the quaintness of the place appealed to me and I sat there for a while with my eyes closed.

A lot of images went through my mind. My mother read storybooks to me, my father took me to the circus, my friends and I watched movies together, my desk, the family photo on the table, the laptop, and my notebook that I use to scribble my ideas. I knew what my mind and heart were trying to tell me.

I sat there silently for some more time and headed back to the resort. I sat down with a diary I was carrying and started jotting down the emotions that I experienced at the church.

I could now enjoy the vacation wholeheartedly as I was sure of what I wanted to do when I go back home.

I started my own blog on traveling once I was back and still now is working on it. Nothing gives me more pleasure than writing and the vacation helped me to realize that.
